With President-Elect Donald Trump threatening to place Obamacare on the chopping block, millions of Americans are concerned about whether they will still be able to obtain health insurance at an affordable rate. Nonetheless, health insurance exchanges and insurance carriers are currently experiencing record-setting traffic.

At least for now, Obamacare remains available for all Americans.  Open enrollment in a new insurance plan takes place now through Jan 31, 2017. If you want or need health insurance during Jan. 2017, you need to enroll by Dec. 15, 2016.  According to Health Network Group, LLC, an Obamacare partner, “Nothing has changed with this 2017 open enrollment period.”

The site advises: “We highly advise anyone who is seeking to obtain health insurance to sign up immediately because call volume and online enrollment traffic is already reaching record numbers. As we get closer to December 15th, it will only get more difficult and time-consuming to enroll in a plan.”

Health insurance coverage is only available during the open enrollment period. Otherwise you will be personally responsible to pay for your medical bills out-of-pocket.  Whether or not Trump changes the law or intends to repeal Obamacare with an alternative does not change your requirements for this year.

Under Obmacare, consumers save on urgent care visits and co-pays.  Primary care and specialist visits, lab tests, X-rays and imaging and most outpatient services are not subject to a deductible. Even those selecting bronze plans—the most basic level—can see a doctor or specialist three times without having to meet their deductible.

There have been several reports of prices going up in 2017.  Price increases for Obamacare vary from state to state.  Those currently enrolled in California can expect around a 22% increase.  For more information and to enroll, visit or call (800) 300-1506.
